How to Get Closer to Dunking

Here's six ideas I came across:

  • Increase your vertical leap by doing squats, calf raises, stair runs, and other leg exercises.
  • Invest in a great pair of shoes - both for improved vertical and injury prevention.
  • Practice jumping across the whole court. Then do an entire lap of jumping.
  • Get used to the mechanics of handling the basketball, especially while lifting it above your head.
  • Start by dunking an a lower-than-regulation hoop.
  • Try dunking with a tennis ball, then a volleyball, and finally the regulation basketball.
